Apple Announces iPhone 18 with On-Device AI and Satellite Messaging

Apple today unveiled the iPhone 18 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in Cupertino, showcasing a device that the company says represents the biggest leap in iPhone capabilities since the introduction of the App Store.

The headline feature is a completely revamped Apple Intelligence system powered by a new Neural Engine chip that processes all AI tasks entirely on-device. Unlike previous iterations, no data is sent to Apple's servers, addressing long-standing privacy concerns.

"This is AI that truly respects your privacy," said Apple CEO Tim Cook. "Every calculation, every inference, every creative suggestion happens right on your device. Your data never leaves your hands."

Other notable features include two-way satellite messaging (expanding beyond the emergency-only satellite SOS of previous models), a thinner design at just 6.9mm, and a new "ProMotion Ultra" display with a 240Hz refresh rate.

The iPhone 18 starts at $999 for the base model and $1,199 for the Pro version. Pre-orders begin June 20, with shipments starting July 11. Industry analysts expect the device to drive a significant upgrade cycle, particularly in India, where Apple has seen explosive growth.
