India's GDP Growth Accelerates to 7.2% in Q1 FY2027

India's gross domestic product grew at an impressive 7.2% year-on-year in the April-June quarter of FY2027, surpassing analyst expectations of 6.8% and confirming the country's status as the world's fastest-growing major economy.

The data released by the Ministry of Statistics showed robust performance across sectors. Manufacturing grew at 8.1%, services at 7.5%, and agriculture at 3.8%. Private consumption expenditure, a key indicator of domestic demand, rose 6.2%.

"The Indian economy continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and momentum," said Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran. "The growth is broad-based and sustainable, driven by structural reforms, digital transformation, and strong investment activity."

The strong GDP print is likely to influence the RBI's monetary policy decisions, potentially supporting the case for rate cuts to further boost growth. International agencies including the IMF and World Bank have projected India to maintain growth above 7% through FY2027.

However, economists have flagged concerns about uneven growth, noting that rural consumption remains below urban levels and that employment generation has not kept pace with GDP expansion.
