Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who will serve a fifth term, acknowledged the reduced mandate. "The people have spoken, and we will listen," she said in a televised address. "This result reflects a desire for both continuity and accountability."
International observers from the EU and Commonwealth noted improvements in the electoral process compared to previous cycles, though some concerns about media freedom and opposition access remained.
India, Bangladesh's largest neighbor and closest strategic partner, congratulated the new government and expressed hope for continued cooperation on trade, connectivity, and regional security. Analysts expect the bilateral relationship to remain on a positive trajectory.
