An Ode to the Defenders of Adeyzai

The Lashkar at Adeyzai has thwarted the march of the Taliban towards Peshawar. This tiny village near Peshawar has been a target for the Taliban for a long time now. Their leaders have paid in blood for standing up to the Taliban, their women and children are also not spared. These guys are fighting our war, a thankless cause, but amazingly this poem, written by someone named Hadi from Adeyzai, has no sarcasm for the rest of us, only pride in their own unflinching stand. We live by our honor and they call us the brave

Why are they bringing the smoke of gunpowder to us?

May God destroy those who bring war to this village

As long as valiant ones like Dilawar are alive

The blood of Ahmad and Malik will not go wasted

We are the pride of our nation and they call us the gallant ones

We will never tolerate any injustice done to the Adeyzai

If we are not harming anyone, then how could we let someone harm us?

We will never allow terror to prevail in our beloved village

Even our children were lost to the smoke of gunpowder

Our shops and houses were burnt down during the night

Our belongings and peace lost to mere bomb pellets

We are burning in the fires of revenge, and some even call us crazy
