It was the first time after India's debut Test that three Indian fast bowlers were making their Test debuts in a match.
Yohannan became the seventh Indian bowler to take a Test wicket on debut in his very first over.
The second-wicket partnership of 125 runs between Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain was the best second-wicket partnership at this ground.
The previous best was 104 between Marvan Atapattu and Roshan Mahanama for Sri Lanka in 1997-98.
Sachin Tendulkar became the ninth Indian batsman, and 89th overall, to reach the mark of 1000 runs in Test cricket against England.
He achieved this in his 10th match and 15th innings against England.
The fifth-wicket partnership of 80 runs between Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly was the best fifth-wicket partnership in this ground.
The previous best was 79 runs between Mohammad Azharuddin and Ganguly against Sri Lanka in 1997-98.
Habhajan Singh became the fifth bowler to take 50 wickets (54 at the end of the match) in this calender year (2001).
The others were Muttiah Muralitharan (72), Glenn McGrath (58), Chaminda Vaas (55) and Shaun Pollock (50) This was India's first victory in four attempts at the Punjab Cricket Association ground at Mohali.
They lost the first Test played there to the West Indies in 1994-95 and drew with Sri Lanka in 1997-98 and New Zealand in 1999-2000.
