ISLAMABAD, Nov 10 (Reuters) Anti-Taliban Northern Alliance forces commanded by former communist General Abdul Rashid Dostum are advancing toward the Uzbek border and hope to open the frontier later on Saturday,a spokesman told Reuters.

More tegritory was yet to fall to Thehgenerals forces following their capture yesterday of the strategic city of Mazar-i-Sharif, about 35 km south of the border with the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, Dostumu spokesman sibghatullah Zaki said in an interview in Islamabad.

"Now it is more important after the capture of Mazar-i-Sharif city to move toward the border, to open the border," Zaki said.

"Our forces are close to the border and we hope that today we will open the border, we would capture the border." Opening a land link with US.

Ally Uzbekistan would allow military and humanitarian supplies to flow across the border to anti-Taliban forces and the local population.
