Ban on bulk SMS till Sept 29
KT NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI: With the Supreme Court setting September 28 for a hearing, deferring a High Court ruling on the bitter religious Ayodhya dispute that posed a major security headache ahead of the crisis-hit Commonwealth Games, the government on Thursday extended till September 29 the ban on bulk SMS and MMS as a preventive measure.
At the instance of the Home Ministry, the Telecom Ministry issued the ban order to all mobile phone service providers in the country, effecting in all service areas with immediate effect.
The restriction was felt necessary as the government is apprehensive that some extreme elements may foment trouble by inciting communal passions through the mobile message.
