Bij behara residents rue lack of roads
Shabir Dar SRINAGAR, Jan 27: Bearing the brunt of government apathy, the residents of Gadisar hamlet in south Kashmir's Bijbehara tehsil, allege that they are facing unnecessary hardships because of lack of proper road connectivity in their village.
The village rests on the banks of Jehlum, which separates the hamlet from the main road (national highway).
The condition of the road according to the villagers is terrible.
Due to the last year's floods the road was virtually reduced into a stretch of potholes and rough path.
Now, the villagers are gripped in fear that this rough road may cause some serious accident at any time.
"There are apprehensions that any passenger vehicle may fall into the river, as the road is in worst condition but despite this the government is not concerned about our plight.
Even our MLA is not concerned about this problem," said Manzoor Ahmad, resident of the village.
Manzoor, who is also a member of the village welfare committee, said that their village has suffered heavily the tenure of all the governments since past 50 years.
He added that hundreds of deputations from their village have visited the concerned MLA and other concerned officials during the past few years, but alleged that nothing fruitful and substantial has been achieved so far as mitigation of problems are concerned.
The most pressing demand of the villagers is the construction of a bridge on the river, which they think is the main problem of theirs.
"If government will construct a bridge on the river, we will get a sigh of relief.
As all our commercial purposes will get fulfilled easily and our children could reach their schools and colleges at proper time and at ease," said Abdul Ahad, a village elder.
Despite repeated attempts, MLA Bijbehara Abdul Rehman Veeri could not be contacted.
