Chucking is worse than match fixing: Bedi
KOLKATA, Apr 4 (UNI): Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi today reiterated that chucking was the worst crime in cricket, far worse than match fixing or bribery, and those found guilty need to be corrected.
The former leading left-arm spinner of the country was reacting to Harbhajan Singh again being called during the current series against Pakistan for bowling his doosra.
"Why has (Anil) Kumble not been called? There has to be some problem with his action that is the reason he has been called," he said.
"He did not go to Australia for a holiday.
If needed he will have to go there again," he said.
On Muthiah Muralidharan being called after he had taken nearly 500 wickets, he said, "The problem was there in the beginning and the evil should have been nipped in the bud.
Chucking cannot be legitimised." On ICC's recent ruling that could act as a help for the chuckers, he said, "There is no way it can be allowed.
There can be no compromise.
It is a big word for me." Asked if he had ever tried bowling a doosra, he said, "No, I did not.
I didn't need it."
