Dead body of boy found in fields

HOSHIARPUR, Feb 15 (UNI): The dead body of a 16-year-old boy, Abhi Verma, who was kidnapped here yesterday, was found in the fields of Alawalpur village in the adjoining Jalandhar district this morning.

Abhi Verma, the son of a jeweller, was kidnapped and the abductors were demanding Rs 50 lakh from the aggrieved parents.

The Punjab police later arrested the two accused in the crime who were identified as Varinder Singh, alias Vicky and Jasvir Singh, the property dealers in Hoshiarpur.

According to IG (Jalandhar Range) S K Sharma, the accused had planned the kidnapping of the boy for ransom as Jasvir Singh had to pay some money to Varinder Singh.

Their preliminary interrogation revealed that they had brought the boy to Jasvir's residence where they gave him an injection which resulted in his death.

Then the two accused took the dead body and threw it in the fields of Alawalpur village in the adjoining Jalandhar district, the IG said.

The body was found by some locals in Alawapur at around 0930 hours, he added.
