EME team undertakes white water rafting expedition

CHANDIGARH, Oct 8 (UNI): A four-day white water rafting expedition in the River Ganges from Rudraprayag to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand hills under the aegis of Headquarters Western Command was flagged off by Maj Gen AK Kalia, MG EME Central Command today at Rudraprayag to commemorate 9th Corps reunion of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers.

A total of 31 rafters, handpicked from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers of the Indian Army (EME), led by Maj Vishal Ahlawat will negotiate a stretch of 158 km in frothing Ganges in four rubber rafts.

The team has undergone intensive in order to prepare for the event.

The team members have acquired the expertise in the rafting skills with particular emphasis on negotiating difficult rapids in addition to special training in safety and rescue procedures.

The majestic Ganges is the fastest flowing river with very high turbulence, scary rapids with great depth in Uttarakhand region.

To negotiate the frothing Ganges in inflated rubber rafts has always been a challenge for most of the rafters.

The rivers Ganges offers an excellent opportunity for the keen rafters to explore the hidden adventure.

The rapids can become quite vicious with the grades from 4 to 5 being the norm.

The expedition has been undertaken with a view to promote adventure sports in the Northern Region and to motivate the youth to join the elite Indian Army and interact with ex-servicemen and war widows and inform them about the welfare measures introduces by the Army.
