Essay writing, debate contest on "pollution explosion"

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, July 12: On the occasion of World Population day on Wednesday the Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing organized an essay writing and debate competition on the topic "Pollution explosion and environmental pollution in Government Higher Secondary School Ramban, in which at least 350 students as well as teachers participated in deliberations.

Farooq Ahmed, Principal Degree College Ramban was the chief guest J.K.Kohli, Environmental Soil conservationist preside over the function.

J.K.Kohli, Environmental Soil Conservationist, Directorate of Environment and Remote Sensing, highlighted the problem of population explosion being faced by world in general and India in particular.

He explained the cause of population explosion, poverty and ignorance at the lower section of society.

He briefed about the effects on environmental pollution with the increase and energy which will increase the demand for more agriculture land, industries and energy which will increase green house effect hereby causing increase in environmental pollution.

Farooq Ahmed, while speaking on the occasion, talked about the increase in population on climate change and asked the participants to create awareness among general people for control of population growth.

Students from Degree College Ramban as well as from Government Higher Secondary School Ramban took part in competition.

At the end of the function , the prizes were distributed among the students in Debate Seema Gupta, Oshin Sharma, Avinash stood first, second and third respectively while Rekha Gupta, Deepika Nagar and Ravi Singh andNadia Snober clinched first three positions in essay contest.
