Foundation of lift irrigation scheme at Gurah Manda laid

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 18 : Minister for R&B, Madan Lal Sharma laid the foundation stone of Rs.45 lakh lift Irrigation Scheme, Phase-II at Gurah Manda in Akhnoor tehsil of Jammu district today.

On completion, it will irrigate over 150 acres of land of Gurah Manda and Gurah Brahamna.

A population of over 1,000 will be benefited.

The discharge capacity of the scheme will be four cusecs of water.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that the coalition government is committed to provide irrigation facilities to the people living in Kandi, hilly and border areas of the state.

He said that currently 15 lift irrigation schemes are already functioning in the Akhnoor tehsil.

He said that presently three lift irrigation schemes are under construction at Seri-Palai, Bardoh and khroom at a cost of Rs.3.45 crore.

These will irrigate over 1,000 acres of arid land of the areas.

He said that during next financial year, the work on Rs.85.11 crore lift irrigation schemes will be started.

These include Rs.82.82 crore lift irrigation scheme at New Ambarn, Rs.52 lakh Dhakkar, Rs.1.53 lakh Thunger-Choudharwalla and Rs.24 lakh lift Irrigation schemes, Taroli.

The schemes will irrigate over 20,000 acres of land of the adjoining villages.

Sharma also announced that three hand pumps at a cost of Rs.3.75 lakh will be constructed during the current financial year at village Gurah Manda and lower Gurah Brahmana.

He also said that road link which will connect Gurah Manda with main road will be constructed.

He also took stock of installation of electric transformer, construction of road links and erection of electric poles and replacement of electric wires of the adjoining villages.

He also directed the BDO, Akhnoor to construct a tube well at Gurah Brahmana and called for the improvement of road links.

The Minister also inaugurated the cave shrine of Mata Bhagwat at Gurah Brahmana and took stock of the construction work of Ram Durbar temple.

Earlier, the Minister visited the temple of Lord Kameshwar at Akhnoor, paid obeisance and announced for immediate construction of road linking the temple with the main road.
