Girl dies in house collapse
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Aug 14 : Another minor girl died, while her mother was critically injured when a residential structure collapsed due to heavy rains in Akhnoor area, about 35 kilometers from here, while two security bunkers and 130 meters of ditch-cum-bandh (DCB) were washed away due to flash floods in Basantar river near the India-Pakistan International Border in Samba district.
Family members of Gola Ram were sleeping inside their house when it collapsed due to heavy rains, which lashed the area, during the wee hours today, police sources said.
They said that daughter and wife of Ram were buried alive in the debris of the house.
Locals rushed to the spot and evacuated both of them from the debris.
Reports reaching here revealed that while wife of Ram was critically injured, his five year old daughter Shivani was killed on the spot.
Earlier a minor girl was killed after being trapped under the debris of his house on Sunday.
Several residential houses have collapsed due to heavy rains in various parts of Jammu region, since last four days.
Reports revealed that two security bunkers and 130 meters of ditch-cum-bandh (DCB) were washed away due to flash floods in Basantar River near the International Border in Samba district, early this morning.
Heavy rains lashed Jammu and its adjoining areas early this morning triggering flash floods in many streams and Nallahs.
Official sources said that due to flash flood in Basantar River two bunkers of Border Security Force (BSF) and 130 meters of ditch-cum-bandh (DCB) were washed away due to overflowing water in the river.
Though there was no loss of life, reported from the area, sources said that some residential houses also suffered damage
