Goa wins boys trophy; J&K bags girls title

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 5: Goa claimed boys trophy defeating Punjab in the final match with a margin of two wickets in the 55th National School Games Tennis Ball Cricket U-19 boys and girls tournament concluded at Mini stadium here today.

In final of girls section, hosts Jammu and Kashmir trounced Jharkhand by 76 runs.

Jharkhand won toss and asked Jammu and Kashmir to bat first.

They have made 100 runs for the loss of four wickets in twelve overs.

Neeru Manhas scored 45 off 36 balls with the held of six fours.

Menaz made 40 from 31 balls in which he struck six fours.

For Jharkhand , Farhat took two wickets for 36 and Reena got one.

In reply, Jharkhand were bundled out on 24 runs in 6.4 overs and lost the match by 76 runs.

Nusrat and Neeru from Jammu and Kashmir shared two wickets each.

In boys section, Goa trounced Punjab by two wickets.

Batting first, Punjab set a target of 41 in 11 overs.

Harpreet (16) and Amrit Paul (7) were leading scorer.

Rahul of Goa claimed three wickets for 15 runs.

Sarvesh clinched two wickets for 6 runs.

Batting second, Goa achieved target in 10.1 overs after losing six wickets.

Sarvesh scored 11 and Atish 9.

From Punjab Sompaul secured two wickets and Amarpreet one.

Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik was the chief guest on the occasion and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up teams.

Addressing gathering, the minister appreciated the organizers for the arrangements to make this event successful.

He emphasized that sports plays pivotal rule in all round development of one’s personality.
