Haryana, Goa, Orissa qualify for Q-finals

CHANDIGARH, Nov 7 (UNI) Hosts Haryana (Cluster III), Manipur (Cluster V), Tripura (Cluster VII) qualified for Group B quarter-finals from their respective clusters in the Seventh Girls Junior National Football Championship, being conducted by Haryana Football Association at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Gurgaon and HUDA Sports Complex in Faridabad today.

For Group A so far, Orissa (Cluster I) and Assam (Cluster IV) made the quarter-final grade.

Haryana blanked Kerala by 5-0 Rpt 5-0 in their Cluster III match for their second successive victory.

Monika put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute while Preeti made it 2-0 in the 27th minute.

However, the day belonged to Sunita Joon who struck in the 15th, 62nd and 76th minutes.

Despite scoring three goals, she failed to perform three-in-a-row feat.

Pleased with the performance of the Haryana girls, the Haryana Football Association secretary Sunil Kumar announced a cash incentive of Rs 51,000 for the team.

In the second match played in Gurgaon, Punjab bowed out of the competitions as they were held goalless by Goa in Cluster II.

Goa qualified for the quarter-finals on the basis of better goal average.

Goa and Punjab have one win and one draw each.

Goa have beaten Pudicherry by 2-0, while Punjab defeated Pudicherry by 1-0.

Punjab's Gagandeep Kaur was cautioned for rough play in the 40th minute.

At the HUDA Sports Complex in Faridabad, Assam blanked Bengal 2-0 for their second successive victory in Cluster IV.

Assam's main striker O Dayabati Singha today contributed two goals by striking in the fifth and 73rd minutes.

Lalsilkim Hmar scored in the 21st minute as Assam sailed into Group A quarters.

In a Cluster I encounter, Orissa carried too many guns against Karnataka as they trounced them by 13-0 and qualified for the quarter-finals.

Thunki Munda emerged as the top scorer in today's matches as she netted in the 15th, 38th ,50th, 64th and 70th minutes.

Gomati Bara (19th, 21st and 47th) and Santosini Oram (53rd, 59th and 62nd) contributed three goals each.

Indira Munda scored a brace by netting in the 11th and 74th minutes.
