HC asks state govt to set up CNG infrastructure
KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Nov 24 : In a major decision, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has asked the government to immediately set up the infrastructure for environment-friendly CNG fuel in the state.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Bashir Ahmad Khan and Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir, directed the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Minister and authorities concerned to take immediate steps for setting up Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Srinagar and Jammu cities.
The Court also asked the officials to submit a status report to it in this regard.
The Bench noted that petrol and diesel used by the vehicles is causing pollution all around and that no CNG or environment- friendly fuel is available in both the capitals of the state.
It also directed the CAPD Director to regularly check all gas stations for fuel adulteration.
The CAPD Director should ensure that the vehicle owners get unadulterated petrol and diesel.
The Court also directed the Transport Commissioner to open 30 pollution checking centres in Jammu and Srinagar cities.
Earlier, the private companies were authorised to open such centres.
