Head Assistant DC office Budgam caught accepting bribe

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 2 : Today State Vigilance Organisation today caught red-handed Ghulam Mehdi Pandit, Head Assistant D.C office Budgam, while accepting a bribe of Rs.3000/- for processing a case relating to approach road to a shopping complex.

Brief facts of the case are that one Mohd.

Mehdi Pandit, Head Assistant is demanding Rs.3000/- for processing of file relating to approach road to his shopping complex at Gogu Humhama.

21/2007 was registered in Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir and investigation taken up.

In the course of investigation the officials of State Vigilance Organisation laid a successful trap in D.C Office Budgam and accused Head Assistant was caught red handed while accepting the bribe of Rs.3000/- from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses.

The tainted money was recovered from his possession and his hand wash tested positive.

The accused was taken into custody for further investigation.

Angry students torch police vehicle, damaged others; 15 injured Demanded teachers but had to face lathicharge, teargasing and firing By Shabir Dar SRINAGAR, Apr 2: Eleven students and two policemen were injured today when police lathicharged the protesting students of higher secondary school in Mujigund Sumbal this afternoon on Srinagar-Bandipora road.

The angry students later torched an official vehicle of SHO Sumbal and damaged many other vehicles.

The students of Mujigund higher secondary school came on roads this morning to protest against the lack of proper teaching staff in their school.

They blocked the Srinagar- Bandipora road and paralyzed the movement of traffic from both sides for hours.

"Our school was upgraded into a senior secondary school two years back, but not a single lecturer has been posted till now.

Our school even lacks the basic teaching strength for higher secondary school.

We are protesting today for this sluggishness of educational authorities," said an angry student Aslam Lone.

As the students including a large number of girls and their parents, who were staging dharna on the road, were raising slogans against the "negligent education authorities" and the government, the Sumbal police and the zonal educational officer (ZEO) Sumbal reached the spot to pacify the angry mob of students.

The students refused to pacify and disperse, despite repeated pleas by the SDPO Sumbal and ZEO.

In the meanwhile the cavalcade of Congress MLC Ali Mohammad Bhat reached the spot, and the angry mob tried to stop the caravan.

The eyewitnesses revealed that the personal security officers (PSOs) of Congress MLC harassed the students and misbehaved with the girl students.

They even showered batons on the students and the other people present in the mob in order to make their way.

This provoked the students to pelt stones on the police and MLC's cavalcade.

The scuffle continued for quite some time, when the PSOs of MLC Bhat opened fire and the protesting students get dispersed.

The police also used tear gases and heavy batons.

The girl students were seen crying after the police batons and the uniforms of some of the students including girls were torn out because of police assault.

The dispersed students pelted stones heavily on police, injured two cops and damaged few vehicles.

An official vehicle JK01E/415 of SHO Sumbal was torched by the angry students.

The condition of two police cops SC Mohammad Jabbar belt No 465/GBL and SPO Bashir Ahmad belt No 40/GBL, who were injured in the incident, is reported to be serious.

The angry mob also damaged the vehicle of CRPF 153 Bn and few vehicles forming MLC's cavalcade.

In the event eleven students were also injured.

These include Rukaya Bano, Rayees Ahmad Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad, Jahangir Ahmad Parray, Mudasir Ahmad Lone, Aslam Lone, Mohammad Ismail Wani, Jahangeer Ahmad, Javiad Ahmad, Aijaz Sofi, Shahid Ahmad and Mohammad Yaqoob Bhat.

The situation in the area, as per latest reports is critical and heavy deployment of police has been made in the area to prevent any eventuality.
