Himanshu claims All India Open Chess Tourney

KT NEWS SERVICE UDHAMPUR, June 6: Himanshu Sharma of Maharashtra claimed the All India Open Chess Tournament here today.

He was awarded cash prize worth Rs 35000, Lahiri Atanu secured second position and was given away a cash prize of Rs 20,000.

Santosh Kumar Kaushik finished third to secure a Rs 12,000 cash prize.

Similarly, 17 other competitors falling under top 20 were also given away cash prizes by the organizers.

Ritwan Sountra of J&K could not make it to the top 20 list after he lost his round 10th game today to Pardeep Arora of Punjab.

Ashwani Anil Patil of Maharashtra was declared best women participant while Krishan Prasad was best veteran.

Himal Gusain of Chandigarh was adjudged best junior.

Ajit Singh was best competitor from and among those participated from Udhampur while Ritwan Sountra was declared best player from J&K and Sumit Grover, second best.

Assistant Commissioner , Rajesh Sharma was chief guest in the valedictory function.

Corporator Younus Khan and Atul Gupta were guests of honour.

Prominent among others present were Sat Pal, president District Udhampur Chess Association, Parminder Singh, Parminder Kumar, Ram Parshotam, G R Khajuria, Vikram Slathia and Surjit Singh Manhas.
