How to deal with Musharraf's Pakistan
Several factors have combined to lend an edge of urgency to devising a policy on how to deal with Pakistan under the rule of the military junta headed by General Pervez Musharraf who prefers to call himself that country's Chief Executive rather than Chief Martial Law Administrator.
For one thing, he has completed over four months in the saddle, and there is no knowing how long he will last.
Especially now that he has managed to straitjacket the higher judiciary by making it swear an oath of allegiance to the present Pakistani dispensation.
A Supreme Court judgement like the one that restored Nawaz Sharif to power in 1993 is therefore wholly unlikely.
