Illegal road on forest land

Case registered against JE contractor, others KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, June 20: Police have registered a case against about a dozen persons for allegedly carving out an illegal road on a forest land in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.

Case among others had been registered against a Junior Engineer of Roads and Buildings Department and a contractor.

Official sources said that police received a written complaint from forest officials that some people have constructed a 14 feet wide road on a forest land by cutting the green trees at Compartment number 179 at Batidhar Nangal Gali in Mendhar tehsil.

The complaint alleged that the accused persons including a JE and a contractor have not only trespassed in the forest land but have also cut down the trees in violation of Supreme Court directions in Writ Petition No 202 of 1965.

Acting upon the compliant police lodged an FIR number 69 of 2008 against Contractor Muhammad Bashir, JE Mehmood Ahmed, Abdul Gani, Mumtaz Ahmed, Muhammad Showkat, Zakir Hussain, Muhammad Sharief, Muhammad Azam, Muhammad Aziz and two JCB drivers Mubarak and Mohan Singh.

The matter was brought into the notice of Range Officer Mendhar Tajamul Hussain who informed the police through a written complaint against the accused.
