Jammu: Dug up roads, litter on streets

By Staff Reporter • 2005-03-03 • 3 min read

As if there were not enough problems, randously dug up roads is another problem that Jammuites are being confronted with.

Not that the department has not done this earlier in the name of public welfare but the problem here is that after digging up an entire stretch, the concerned authorities fail to fill them back thus adding to the inconvenience of the public.

This time the victims are none other than the residents of Canal Road who are withstanding the worst of departmental apathy.

Although the authorities have uprooted one side of the road on the pretext of laying fresh water pipes but this has become a pain in the neck for the public.

Most of thecvm state that for the entire day, the workers instead of accumulating the concrete on one side litter it on the road thus making it very difficult for people to walk on the road.

They maintain that it not only turns out to be dangerous but also adds to the mess of the city.

Although the authorities maintain that they would level the road and pick up the concrete once their work id done but the past experiences have revealed otherwise.

It's often seen that the authorities 'forget' to clear the road once the work is done.

The recent examples can be seen not only at Circular Road but also at Sidhra Bypass where the concrete has been lying for months and the authorities have failed to clear the place.

However, it is not just the issue of littered concrete.

Water clogging is another thing that bothers the public once these roads are dug up.

With rain still pouring, water clogging has become more of a nuisance.

Jammu city anyways does not boast of best of civic amenities and with departments being negligent about these issues and failing to take appropriate action, seems like people would have no other option but to bear in silence.
