J&K Ranji Trophy selection brews resentment

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Oct 8: Now-a-days Jammu and Kashmir state cricketers oftenly raised questions over the selection process for the various national school level tournaments are hosted under the aegis of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) saying that the whole selection process is simply eyewash.

They alleged that favoritism and nepotism have marred the selection trials of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association for the various national level cricket tournament and deserving players are being ignored, the reason best known to the president, JKCA.

Addressing media persons, some Ranji Trophy cricketers said that The way JKCA is functioning is totally arbitrary, irrational.

They alleged that the selection of Jammu wing for Rani Trophy has been biased and without considering performance.

Rakesh Koul, one of the four aggrieved cricketers, who was left out by the JKCA selectors was claiming, he is the highest scorer in the trial matches, he said that the selection has been made without any justification.

He said that when we wanted to contact selectors and officer bearers of JKCA all of them passed buck to each other and no reasoning was given to omission.

It is very sad that players who have performed well in the trials matches has been ignored and those who are related to selectors and officials in one way or other have been given berth in the side.

Vivek Singh, Jagtar Singh and Guru Partap said that we have tried to contact general secretary and chairman, JKCA but no heed given to our request .

Raising question on the functioning of the association, they said Rule 8 of JKCA constitution clearly says that the selectors ought to be elected by the working committee, but the present selectors have been nominated by the JKCA president, while throwing all norms to winds due to which the credibility of the selectors is also questionable.

They alleged that presently JKCA has forgotten the objects of its inception and the person sitting at the helm of affairs in the JKCA is functioning as autocrat while living in a democratic country.

Pertinent to mention that games and sports in J&K almost at the verge of collapse due to unnecessary interference in functioning of department of youth Services and Sports as well as State Sports Council.
