JKP organises "Wattan-ki-Sair" for students

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 12 - As part of Sadbhavana programme , the Jammu and Kashmir Police has organized Wattan-Ki-Sair, an all India tour for the students of militancy hit, remote and inaccessible areas of the State, which was flagged off by the Vigilance Commissioner, Dr.

Ashok Bhan at an impressive function held at Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground here this morning.

While interacting with the students on the occasion, Dr.

Bhan said that the men in Khaki are the best friends of people.

He said the aim of organizing such tours particularly for poor students of far-flung and remote areas of the State is to enable them to see historical places, development activities and rich ethos across the country.

He said it is the endeavour of Jammu and Kashmir Police to give boost to the students hailing from remote areas of the State.

He advised them to go and enjoy the tour and enrich their knowledge and improve education for a bright future.

Many of the students stated that they have for the first time visited even Jammu city and thanked the police for organizing the tour.

The group of 75 students is accompanied by 4 officers, 6 teachers, 2 para-medical staff members.

As many as 15 students are drawn from Anantnag, 10 from Pulwama, 13 Baramulla, 12 Kupwara, 20 Ramban and 5 from Doda and Kishtwar districts.

Earlier, the Inspector General of Police Armed, Sheikh Owais Ahmed briefed the Vigilance Commissioner about the aim of organizing Wattan-ki-Sair and gave details of the tour programme.

He said during the 10-day tour, the students would visit Agra, Taj Mahal, Delhi, Jaipur and other historical places of the country.

Among others, the function was attended by Inspectors General of Police, S.

Gopal Reddy, Navin Agarwal and A.

Gupta, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Ravinder Kotwal, Muneer Ahmed Khan and Abdul Qayoom Manhas, AIG (T&I), Rajesh Kumar, Commandant Rafiq-ul-Hassan and other senior police officers.

New campus of Akhnoor Degree College all set for inauguration: Charak KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 12 : New campus of Akhnoor Degree College is all set for inauguration.

3.85 crore project for the construction of the new campus has fully been completed in record period of 18 months by JKPCC to shift the college presently housed in three room compartment of primary school to new campus.

This was said by Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak today during his visit to new campus.

The campus comprises of administrative and academic blocks under one roof which includes 6 class rooms, 4 laboratories, one library, open air auditorium and administrative block with all facilities required for its functioning.

Charak directed the Director Colleges N.

Wani to fix a date as early as possible for its inauguration so that the students would take benefit of new campus at the earliest.

He also directed the executive agencies to speed up the allied developmental works of the college as early as possible with regard to it fencing, landscaping and other works, for which separate funds are being provided soon.

Earlier, Minister visited the degree college where it is housed in a primary school near government middle school Akhnoor and celebrated the Lohri festival with the students of the college who have assembled within the premises of the college today for the same.

Seeing the pathetic condition of the class rooms, Charak while addressing the students lauded the role of administration as well as students who continued the academic curriculum with zest despite, facing lot of inconvenience during last three years.

He said that the founder students of this college who top in University exams have become the beacon lights for the coming generation of the Akhnoor area.

Charak asked the students to acquire the knowledge in every field and serve the society for its betterment.

Our goal is to enlight our young generation with moral and value based education to save the society from the evils, he said.

Quoting Swami Ram Thirtha, Charak said that Swami said "the highest gift we may confer on a man is to offer him knowledge, you may feed a man today he will be just hungry tomorrow, teach him an art and enable him to earn his livelihood".

Charak said that all the new degree colleges already setup by the government would have their own building before the next academic session as they have been taken under fast development programme.

He said that every steps were being taken for consolidation of infrastructure of colleges to provide better academic environment to the students of J&K.

Charak also announced Rs.

1 lakh out of his constituency development fund (CDF) for the construction of toilet facility to the students of the college.

On the occasion, Principal Degree College Akhnoor Prof.

Koul highlighted the achievements made by the college in various activities even due to non-availability of teaching staff.

Director Colleges also spoke on the occasion.

The students of the college also presented colourful cultural programmes applauded by the audience.
