JU physical education deptt sans head for 17 yr now

In a state where sports are considered to be an inutile affair and head of the sports bodies are treated with contempt, we should not hope a medal from the sports persons in the All India Varsity, national and Olympics.

Though, we are more than one billion now yet we can not blame our sportsmen for the debacles in the international events.

This is the system, which keeps them out of race in the international meets for years.

University of Jammu too is running on the beaten track as far as facilities to the players are concerned.

The Universities of Jammu authority has made Inter-Collegiate men and women sports meet as a cruel joke by providing them just ten rupees diet to every such player participating in the competitions.

Despite it the University of Jammu has fixed quota for these sports persons in the different departments for admission but not allowing them to take part in the Inter-Varsity Universities Sports competitions.

Replying to a question most of the sports men said "if we will take part in such sports activities the University authority rewarded them with shortage in the attendance.

Though the University of Jammu has got ISO certificate yet it requires lot for the improvement of its standard.

Sources disclosed that top three posts of Physical education department have been lying vacant.

The department is functioning with any senior official after the retiring of assistant director MM Sharma, who got superannuation on January 31, however, the post of incharge PTS campus has been lying vacant after Manmohan retired from services on October 31, 2004.

Surprisingly, the department of Physical Education of University of Jammu is headless for the last seventeen years after BK Magotra has retired as its director in 1992.

Thereafter, authority has called the applications at least more then half a dozen times for the same post but did not conduct the interviews without any solid reasons.

To felicitate few blue eyed persons the authority is not making full time director, the JU authority has issued order that Dean Students Welfare of University of Jammu will also hold addition charge of the physical Education department due to which Inter -Collegiate Sports Meet has been made a mere formality.

The headless department has also lost its teeth for those colleges, which are not taking part in the sports meets.

Even though the department is being run short by staff members for the last fifteen years in the absence of the full time director but still university authority is fast asleep on this issue.

Time and again the authority is repeatedly advertising the said post without any reasons.

It was lying vacant after the then director BK Magorta has got superannuation in 1992.

Thereafter, the university authority could not make efforts to find his successor.

Even though the JU authority has set up a fitness centre in the department of physical education but could not find a person who can head the department for the last seventeen years.

Besides, the assistant director's posts has been lying vacant after MM Sharma got superannuation on January 31, while the post of PTI campus has been lying vacant since October 31.

Sources disclosed that every year lakh of rupees has been spent for the purchase of sports goods but players are still complaining that atleast we are not getting any sports materials form the department..

Despite dozen of grounds men, the condition of the grounds are also in shambles condition.
