Kargil girls hostel being set up in Srinagar: CM
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Feb 16 : Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has assured the Ladakhi students that government would set up a hostel for girl students of Kargil in Srinagar.
Addressing Id-milan-cum-annual day function organized by Kargil Students Union (KSU) at B.Ed College Srinagar yesterday, the Chief Minister said that land for the hostel would be identified and suitable plan prepared.
A boys hostel is already under construction at Bemina which, he said, would be completed by June.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for spreading education in far-flung areas of Ladakh and said that distance education would be strengthened in Kargil to increase literacy which is vital for economic development.
He said his government has achieved many milestones in education sector and a large number of primary schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and education guarantee centres have been established in different parts of the state including Kargil.
He said education has been accorded top priority by the coalition government and it intends to bring socio-economic transformation through this instrument of change.
He hoped that the people of Ladakh would benefit through these measures.
Responding to the demands of Kargil Students Union, he said that office of the Board of School Education at Kargil would also be brought at par with Leh.
The Minister for Youth Services, Sports and Technical Education Haji Nissar Ali, who also spoke on the occasion, said that a network of primary schools is being setup in Kargil to spread education.
Special emphasis is being laid to promote girl enrollment.
He said steps would be taken for better management of Kargil House in Srinagar.
He also demanded air ticket quota for Kargil students in commercial flights.
Earlier, the students presented a colourful cultural programme depicting the rich ethos of Ladakh with special emphasis on Kargil.
