KCCI elections held for executive committee
KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, June 30: Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) today held elections for electing the executive committee of 19 members.
Six office bearers would be chosen from this lot at a later stage during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is likely to be held on July 7, the date on which the results of today's elections would be announced.
The General Secretary of KCCI, Abdul Hameed Punjabi said that the polls were held in a peaceful manner and all the members cast their votes without any disturbance.
"The polling started at 10:00 a.m and continued till 5:00 p.m," Punjabi said and added that 80 percent polling was recorded.
The General Secretary further said that the Chamber has currently more than 600 members and added that 80 percent of them had come to cast their votes for electing 19 executive members.
"27 members are in the fray from whom 19 members have to be elected.
Those who would come in the first 19, would be deemed as the members of the KCCI", Punjabi said.
Punjabi said that the elections were monitored by the observers all through the day after a polling committee and the scrutiny committee from the J & K Bank and SIDCO inspected the ballot boxes in the morning.
He said that the ballot boxes were shifted to the joint safe custody of JK Bank and SIDCO, who would eventually declare the results.
The General Secretary went on to add that the result of the elections would be declared on July 7, the day on which the Annual General Meeting would be also held for electing the six office bearers of the KCCI including the President, General Secretary and the Treasurer.
Punjabi, on behalf of the executive committee and office bearers of KCCI, thanked the members who according to him wholeheartedly participated in the election process.
"We also extend our thanks to the past presidents of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry and also all our affiliated associations who had issued appeals to the members to participate in the elections", he said and added that it was only possible because of their zeal and zest to organize the whole process in a smooth way.
