KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, July 18: Hurriyat Conference (G) today said the spate of killings at the Line of Control are a stage managed show in which youth are killed after taking them into custody.

The Majlis-e-Shoura of the Hurriyat faction today met under the chairmanship of Syed Ali Shah Geelani here to take stock of the alleged rise in the human rights abuses at the hands of security forces.

The meet decided to intensify its mass contact programme to expose the separatist leaders who are "exploiting the freedom struggle".

The Shoura members said the forces are breaking new records on the human rights front despite the fact the India and Pakistan are holding talks for the improvement of situation in the sub-continent.

Referring to the ruling coalition government, the meet said, it is one step ahead of central leaders in parroting peace slogan.

"The Indian forces has proved this slogan hollow by committing gross human rights abuses here", the Hurriyat spokesman quoted members as saying.

The meet said in the backdrop of past record nothing can be said with authenticity about the large scale killings on the LoC.

"Generally, the youth are captured and subsequently killed in custody", the members said.

The Hurriyat leaders said the killings have shaken the people here and they are asking that who are being killed and what is their fault.

The meet also condemned the killing of Zahida, a girl from Anantnag district by a trooper.

"If the body of the army man was not recovered after the gruesome murder, the killing would have been put in the account of unidentified gunmen.

This proves our stand that the killings executed in the name of unidentified gunmen are basically the handiwork of forces", they said.

The spokesman said the Hurriyat Shoura has decided to intensify its mass contact programme.

"People would be alarmed about the elements who are exploiting the name of Hurriyat Conference and are spreading confusion among the masses", he said.
