Mangat, Beig call on PM, law minister
KT NEWS SERVICE NEW DELHI, Mar 2 : The Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma and Minister for Finance and Planning, Muzaffar Hussain Beig today called on the Prime Minister Dr.
Manmohan Singh here this afternoon.
The Ministers expressed their deep gratitude on behalf of the state government to the Prime Minister for taking personal interest in mitigating hardships of the people caused due to recent heavy snowfall in the state.
The Prime Minister after a day long visit to the state on Sunday last deputed a Central Team to asses the damages caused by the snowfall.
The Minister also expressed their deep appreciation on the role played by the army, security forces and civil administration in helping the people during the calamity.
The Ministers complimented the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Defence Minister, Pranab Mukharjee for their visit to the state to share the grief of the people.
The Prime Minister accompanied by the Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil during their visit to the state inspected various affected areas including Anantnag, Baderwah and Kishtwar and took stock of the damages caused due to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and its worst impact especially on road communication and transmission of power supply.
They also expressed their deep sorrow on the loss of lives due to avalanches in the state.
Later both of called on the Union Law Minister HR Bhardwaj.
During their meeting, the lawyers strike in Jammu came for discussion.
The Ministers explained to the Union Minister that due to non-availability of funds the state government was not in a position to conceed the demand of the lawyers to construct chambers in the High Court and the subordinate courts in rural areas.
They informed the Union Minister that a proposal sent by the state government for provision of funds for the purpose is already lying with the union ministry.
The Ministers requested the Union Law Minister to release adequate funds for the purpose so that the lawyer's demand is conceeded.
The Union Law Minister assured the Ministers that the proposal would be considered on priority.
