Perhaps realizing that M.Com general course does not convey much usefulness with the passage of time and to enrich Post Graduate courses as per the commitment made in Special Assistance Programme (SAP) proposal, the Department of Commerce of Jammu University is contemplating to start M.Com Professional degree/diploma from the coming academic session.

However, course structures, syllabuses, statues governing it are yet to be finalized but the exercise is on to introduce specialized masters' degree in commerce.

According to senior professor and former Head of the department Professor RD Sharma, the specialized courses will include M.Com in Human Resource Management, M.Com in Marketing, M.Com in Finance and M.Com in E-Commerce.

He disclosed that some diploma courses of one year duration will also be introduced from the coming academic session.

The one year diploma courses will include PG Diploma in Marketing, PG Diploma in Marketing and PG Diploma in Human Resource Management.

He said that efforts are being made to start these courses/programs with in given resources available as both state and central government are not funding these courses.

All the faculty members are working at their individual level to prepare draft course structure.

Some shape is expected in a meeting likely to be held this month.

It will be pertinent to mention here that earlier one meeting has already been convened but nothing materialized.

As it has already been diversified in other states of the country, introducing professional courses in Jammu University will offer students more options with areas of specialization.

Professor Sharma said that general courses may be restricted and a parental institution shall run a specialized course.

Stating that more involvement of students will be needed, Professor Sharma disclosed that some courses will be same but greater dose and proper treatment in teaching and learning process will be added in the syllabus.

Fielding the queries, Professor Sharma said that selection to these courses will be purely made on the basis of performance in written test that will be conducted by the varsity.

He said that students from all streams will be eligible for filling the admission form however some edge will be given to the commerce graduates.
