KATHMANDU, Feb 13 (UNI) Several border check-posts in Nepal have disallowed the entry of birds and poultry products from India, according to a media report here.

Livestock quarantine check-posts in Madar, Siraha and Kakarbhitta in Eastern Nepal have banned the entry of poultry and bird import from India.

The ban was imposed due to the possibility of the disease entering Nepal through poultry, fish products and other birds imported from India, the Kantipur online said quoting Dinesh Singh of the livestock quarantine check-post of Madar in Siraha.

Likewise, health check up of chicks and other fowls was conducted at 40 different poultry farms of the district, he said.

Thousands of eggs and hundreds fowls are imported from India each month through the transit, it is said.

The Indian poultry industry is free from avian influenza and the bird flu has also not appeared in Nepal so far.

However, the sale of poultry product has continued to plummet despite assurances from health experts that the disease is not spread through eating.
