KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (DPA): Malaysian foreign minister Syed Hamid Albar said that Malaysians who left the country to aid the Taliban movement in war against the US would get no assistance from Malaysias missions overseas, news reports said today.

Responding to calls by the opposition pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), the minister reiterated that Malaysia had already voiced its stand against terrorism and the use of force to solve the problem.

"According to our laws, it is wrong for and Malaysian to take part in a war in another country," Syed Hamid said.

"If pas feel so strongly about the situation in Afghanistan, they should voice their objections through the proper channels or they could join the humanitarian group to help the Afghan refugees, but not to join the Taliban in fighting the US and its allied forces." He also said that Malaysia was concerned about a report in the New York Times and The International Herald Tribune about the possibility of the country becoming a target in an overt or covert operation by the US in its action against terrorism.

Syed Hamid added that Malaysia was less worried about the report becoming a reality than its impact on its public image.

"What is important to us is the image of our country.

We do not want reports that portray Malaysia as unstable or mired in trouble," he said.
