Pandits organisation seeks permission to visit Sharda Peeth
JAMMU, Oct 30 (Agencies ):A organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits today sought permission to conduct a damage assessment of the world famous Sharda Peeth shrine, located in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, in the aftermath of October 8 earthquake.
"In wake of opening of five border meeting points on the LoC on November 7, a delegation of Kashmir pandits should be allowed to visit the Shardha Peeth in Muzaffarabad's Neelam Valley in PoK to assess the damage to the shrine due to recent quake," Sanjeevani Shardha Kendra (SSK) president R L Bhat told reporters here.
He said "the ignorance about current ground situation in the wake of earthquake has made KPS across globe apprehensive about the fate of the shrine.
We are perturbed about the silence of the governments on both sides about the status of the shrine." "If the shrine had damaged, we urge that Archaeological Survey of India be involved in necessary repair and restoration work," Bhat said.
"As the shrine is close to the Uri sector, we also request the government to open a route to the shrine from Bbore Keran village in Kupwara to facilitate the visit and the restoration work," B L Koul, a scholar, said.
An annual pilgrimage to the Shardha temple be allowed on Shardha Ashtami on the pattern of pilgrimage to Nankana Sahib in Pakistan and Sindhu Darshan in Ladakh, he demanded.
