NEW DELHI, Oct 16 (UNI): The Left parties today hailed the Congress-NCP victory in the Maharashtra Assembly polls and said the ruling combine's return to power had proved that the people were fed-up with commual politics.

"This is a very significant victory...

the credit goes to the people of Maharashtra who despite multiple candidates have rejected the commnual combine," senior CPI (M) leader and politburo member Sita Ram Yechuri told UNI.

Yechuri said his party, which along with the People's Workers Party (PWP) has won six seats in the state, would play a key role in the formation of the next government in the state.

The people had also expressed the hope that the new government would provide relief to those suffering from continuous drought and other hardships, the CPI(M) leader added.

In his reaction, CPI General Secretary A B bardhan said the people no longer wanted communal forces like the BJP-Shiv Sena combine.

"They (Shiv Sena-BJP) thought that they would exploit the anti-incumbency factor and win but they have been sorely disappointed," Bardhan added.
