Registration of Nepalese in HP made mandatory
SHIMLA, Aug 31 (UNI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said registration of Nepali nationals visiting the state has been made mandatory in view of their increasing activities in Nepal.
"Registration of Nepalese nationals visiting the state has been made mandatory," he said while speaking at the National Integration Council (NIC) meeting at New Delhi.
Singh thanked the Centre for sanctioning one IRB Battalion to and providing assistance for strengthening the state police force, while urging for more funds to meet the increasing threat of insurgency and terrorism.
He said a special cell under a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been constituted in each district to deal with reports concerning communal problems.
A separate department of redressal of public grievances has been set up and complaints and grievances of the minorities and weaker sections were being redressed on priority, he said.
The chief minister said the reach of the media in far-flung and tribal areas was limited due to geographical constraints.
All India Radio (AIR) covers 55 per cent area and 89 per cent population while Doordarshan covers 63 per cent population and 42.5 per cent area.
