RPF distances itself from Centre-Hurriet dialogue

KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 17: People's Political Front (PPF) led by Fazal Haq Qureshi today decided to disassociate itself from the centre-Hurriet talks reasoning that the situation on ground has not changed and continues to be grim.

In a statement to local news agency CNS, PPF vice-chairman Mohommad Musadiq said that a meeting of the party executive was held here today in which the talks process and its implication on ground were discussed threadbare.

"It was fled that there has been no change on ground despite assurances given by the deputy prime minister L.K.Advani.

Therefore the party decided to disassociate from the talks process", he said.

Musadiq noted that the party believes that only peaceful negotiations can bring about resolution to Kashmir issue and it will continue to pursue this path till a honorable settlement is found to the vexed problem.

Welcoming the Indo-Pak secretary level talks, he hoped that this will lead to a point where a honorable solution of the Kashmri issue will be found.

It is pertinent to mention that PPF chairman Fazal Haq Qureshi was among the team of five interlocutors that held discussions with the deputy prime minister L.K.Advani and prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on January 22 and 23 respectively.

GMC employees' strike on Feb 23 KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 17: The spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Employees Federation has decided they will observe comlete strike in all the associated hospitals of GMC on February 23.

The strike is being obsereved against the governemt decision that the recent ordinance against the employees will not be taken back.

HR bodies urged to intervene in detenue's release KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 17: The relatives of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh have expressed their concern over the arrest of the aged professor who continues to be in custody since 1992.

A resident of Nigeen Srinagar, Sheikh was lodged in Tihar jail in 1992 and continues to be in the detention despite the fact that a Delhi court has ordered his release.

But the orders of his release have been quashed by the judiciary.

It is important to mention here that the doctors who had attended on the aged professor in the jail recently have declared that there is a hole in the heart of Sheikh which needs to be operated upon soon.

The relatives of Sheikh have said that the causes for which the aged professor has been detained have not been declared so far and the same continues to hanut them even after 12 years.

They have also added that if anything untowards happens to the innocent professor, all the blame will go to the government.

The relatives have also appealed to the human rights organizations working all over the world to try every their bit in releasing the detained professor.

Demonstrations in Narbal against civilian's killing KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 17: Protest demonstrations today rocked the Narbal area as people were protesting against the death of a civilian identified as Abdul Rashid of Sozeth Narbal.

According to a local news gathering agency people of the area allege that the deceased was killed by Ikhwanis after he was abducted from his house.

Police said they recovered the bullet ridden corpse from Sozeth Goripora that falls in Kawoosa Khalsa belt.

They said a case was registered.

Slain civilian was the sole bread-earner for seven children.

Hundreds of people came on the roads demanding action.

Police use force to restore order in the area.

The highly charged villagers took the body and kept on the main road blocking all kinds of movement.

Police action has left many people injured.

For many hours, the movement of traffic on the Srinagar Baramulla highway transport.

Hurriet Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was also arrested on this occasion.

The entire belt observed a complete strike.

Meanwhile, Hurriet Conference (G) has expressed its concern over the killing and has termed the killing as another example of gross human rights violation.

The conglomerate has also denounced the lathi charge on people at Narbal who were protesting the killing.
