SHO, PSO, 3 civilians injured in Kalakote clashes
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 9: Station House Officer (SHO) police station Kalakote, his Personal Security Officer (PSO) besides three persons were wounded when a clash took place between Congress and National Conference (NC) workers over possession of contract of Kalakot Bus Stand today.
The police fired atleast 10 shots in air and resorted to teargas shelling in order to control the mob.
Tension gripped Kalakote town following the clash and all the business establishments were closed the whole day.
The vehicular traffic was also affected on the Kalakote road.
Reports said that five persons including SHO Police Station Kalakote Raghubir Singh and his body guard were injured following a group clash between Congress and NC workers at Kalakote Bust Stand today.
The clash took place between two groups during the auction of yearly contract of Kalakote Bus Stand.
The situation took ugly turn when one group announced lowest ever rates of Adda Tax.
The other group went bereserk over what they called 'unjustified' rates and started pelting stone on the other group.
Both the groups attacked each other with the stones and bricks.
The clash between both the groups continued for atleast 2 hours.
Looking into the gravity of the situation, the police opened fire in air and also restored to tear gas shelling in order to disperse the mob.
The ding dong battle between the police and two groups continued for couple of hours in which SHO Police station Kalakote Raghubir Singh, his PSO and three persons were wounded.The other injured included Som Raj of Tatapani and Suraj Parkash of Kalakote.
The injured including SHO were hospitalised.
The situation came under control at 1400 hours in the afternoon as police managed to dispose both the groups.
Following clashes and keeping in view the tense situation, the shopkeepers of town downed the shutters of their shop.
The vehicular traffic was also affected in the area.
When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, SA Murjtaba, he said that a dispute took place between two groups over possession of Adda Contract of Bus Stand Kalakote.
He said that situation brought under control and counter FIRs have been lodged against both groups.
