Sri Lankan dancers perform on Dogri song

KT NEWS SERVICE UDHAMPUR, Aug 22 : It was a rare occasion for the people of Udhampur assembled at Goverdhan Palace, Udhampur last evening to witness the dance performances by a cultural troupe of Sri Lanka when Sri Lankan dancers attired in traditional Dogra costumes danced on the Dogri song composed by Sham Sajan, a reputed Singer and Music Composer of the State.

Choreographed by Randhir Singh, the performance was so forceful and synchronized that no one could resist to give loud applause with repeated cheers.

The Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu in collaboration with Goverdhan Sangeet Natak Academy, Udhampur organized the programme at Udhampur.

The District Development Commissioner, O.P.

Kalandria was the chief guest on the occasion.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, J.L.

Sharma, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Education Officer, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, President of Goverdhan Sangeet Natak Academy, Anand Khajuria, Art lovers and prominent persons of the town were present on the occasion.

The group presented various folk dances of their regions including Khala Gadi Water Pot Dance, Pan dance, Winnowing dance , Lee Kailey, Rubbon and Low Country which were highly appreciated by the audience.

Another highlight of the programme was Kashmir dance " Bhumro" presented by the same group.

The local dancers belonging to Navrang Theatre People Group Udhampur also performed on the stage.

As many as 30 artists from Sri Lanka headed by troop leader Tilak Fernadees are on five day tour of the Jammu & Kashmir state.
