State team selected for National Bench Press Championship
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: All J&K Power Lifting Association has selected the 20 members state team for participation in the National Junior Bench Press Championship going to be held at Jamshedpur from March 15 to 18.
Twenty member team comprising of 13 men and 7 women was selected on the basis of the performance in the recently held state Bench Press Championship.
President of the association Parvez Malik has pinned very high hopes on Rahul Sawhney, Karnail Singh, Jaikaran, Shashi Paul and Bharti Mahajan in the said nationals.
Men’s category : Shashi Paul, Rakesh Kumar, Anjeel, Sanjeev Singh, Sunil Singh, Ashuman Sharma, Rajan, Jai Karan, Preet Dutta, Harish Kumar, Varun Singh, Kamail Singh and Rahul Sawhney.
Women’s category : Sunita Verma, Needhi, Bharti Mahajan, Renu Sharma, Simita, Mamta Sharma& Vishwal Gupta were selected.
Ajay Sharma has been named coach and Rajeev Charak will accompany the team as manager.
Meanwhile, the team will also participate in the trials for selection of the Asian Bench Press Championship and World Bench Press Championship, which is going to be held at Philippines and Mexico respectively.
Rajiv Gandhi T-20 Cricket: KCC trounces Challenger Club by 53 runs KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: KCC today registered an excellent 53 runs win over Challenger Club in the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial T-20 Cricket tournament played at MA Stadium here.
Batting first after winning toss KCC set a target of 169 for the loss of six wickets in the limited 20 overs match.
Dhruv played an unbeaten brilliant knock of 62 runs off 41 balls with help of one six and six boundaries to the fence.
Dheeraj added 40 from 31 balls.
He struck five fours and one six.
Pardeep Bali and Vimrash contributed 17 and 10 respectively.
For Challenger Club, Vijay Sharma and Gagan shared two wickets each.
One wicket each was claimed by Sunny and Sumit.
In reply, Challenger Club could make 116 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs match.
Madan made highest 25 off 22 balls.
Suresh (25), Sanjeev (19), Sachin (15) and Sumit (14) were other main scorer of the team.
Manik from KCC took four wickets for 29 runs.
Hilal Rather, Sumit, Raman Dutta and Dhurv shared one wicket each.
Dhruv who scored 62 and claimed one wicket was named man of the match.
Krishan Lal, Ashok Kumar were umpires and Gautam Verma was the scorer of the match.
Kalra elected president of Cantt.
Cricket Club KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: JKCA Finance committee member, Ranjeet Kalra, has been unanimously elected as the new president of Cantt.
Cricket Club in its meeting held here today.
Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs R S Chib, Minister for Revenue and Relief, Raman Bhalla and JKCA Chairman, Mohd.
Aslam Goni shall be the new patrons of the club.
Besides, Raj Kumar was elected as the vice president while Iqbal Wani shall be the secretary of the club.
Vinay Thusoo, Imran Farooq, Dinesh Sharma, Vijay Choudhary, Purshottam Sharma, Vinay Gupta, Ajay Gandral, Anil Shukla, Ritu Pal Singh shall be the members of the Executive committee while Ahtsham Batt shall be the legal advisor to the club.
Udhampur Cup Cricket 2010: JCC defeats GCC .
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: JCC defeated GCC by 76 runs in the Udhampur Cup Cricket tournament 2010 tie played at Sports Stadium Udhampur, After winning toss and elected to bat first, JCC made 182 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 35 overs Sanjeev Singh scored 37 runs .
For GCC Vikas and Pardeep took 2 wickets each.
Batting second, GCC made 106 runs in 22.4 overs.
Pawan scored 33 runs.
Deepu from JCC took 5 wickets in 6.4 overs and gave 20 runs He was also declared as man of the match.

Armed Police Inter-Bn Sports meet Semis position cleared in basketball, kabaddi KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: Semifinals stage has been set in basketball and kabaddi in the going annual inter-battalion Sports meet of J&K Armed Police played at Gulshan Grounds here today.
In men’s basketball, IRP 8th, IRP 3rd, IRP 13th and JKAP 5th Bn have qualified it into the semi-finals.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, IRP 8th routed JKAP 8th by 27-12 .
IRP 3rd defeated trounced IRP 2nd by 27-10.
In other quarterfinals, IRP 13th Bn overpowered IRP 7th Bn 24-10 and JKAP 5th Bn trounced IRP 11th 30-25.
In volleyball, IRP 6th, IRP 3d, JKAP 8th and IRP 8th Bn have qualified for the semi-finals.
In the quarterfinals, IRP 6th annexed IRP 9th by 46-16 and IRP 3rd defeated JKAP 9th by 46-14.
JKAP 8th registered a comfortable win over IRP 5th 34-19 while JKAP 8th outplayed IRP 7th 32-15.
In women section, preliminary round were conducted in two events of kho-kho and kabaddi,.

JP Singh to head Squash Association KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Mar 11: JP Singh has been elected as president of Jammu and Kashmir Squash Rackets Association in its election meeting held on Wednesday at Polo Ground in Srinagar.
Besides, Mozam Bakshi named as senior vice president.
Arshad Khan and Zahoor Ahmed have been nominated as vice presidents.
GS Bakshi has been retained as general secretary.
Firdous Ahmed as treasurer, SK Sharma and Dr Abdul Rouf to be joint secretaries.
Krishan Kumar will be technical advisor.
Horkar Apati wins Archery tourney KT NEWS SERVICE KARGIL, Mar 11: Horkar Apati defeated Tumail team by 11 points in the final match of Archery tournament held at Chutumail Sport Stadium, today at Kargil.
Apati Archery team scored 25 points while Tumail team managed to score only 14 points.
This Archery tournament was organized by Sports & Social Welfare Association Soth Kargil which commenced on March 6 .
About 26 Archery teams of Seth area took parts in the Archery tournament.
Chief Executive Councillor Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan was the as chief guest on the occasion, while Executive Councillor Haji Ghulam Amir Councillors, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Reyaz Ahmad Shiekh.
SP Ajaz Ahmad, Army and Civil Officers also present at the occasion as special guest.
Speaking at the occasion Chief Executive Councillor greeted Apati team for winning the tournament and also appreciated the spirit of Tumail team.
He also stressed to maintain peace and unity in the area to ensure all-round development of the area.
