SVO chargesheets 2 cops for bribery
KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Jan 21: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) has produced challan against two cops who were caught red handed while taking bribe in Srinagar.
An official handout said that SVO) as produced challan against two police officials then posted in Police Post Noor Bagh Srinagar, who were caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs 1500 from a local of the area for making concessions to him in two criminal cases pending investigation with these officials against him.
Handout further said that a Case FIR number 13 of 2007 Police Station VOK under section 5(2) PC Act read with 161, 120 -B RPC was registered on March 3, 2007 on the complaint of Ghulam Nabi Khan, son of Fateh Mohammad Khan resident of Wanganpora Idgah.
He alleged that Head Constables Farooq Ahmed Chat and Ghulam Nabi Wani of Police Post Noorbagh were demanding an illegal gratification of Rs 1500 each for extending concessions to him in the course of investigation of two criminal cases under FIR number 33 of 2007 and 36 of 2007 under investigation with the accused police officials, in which the complainant had been arrayed as an accused.
During the course of investigation, the officials of SVO laid a successful trap during which both the accused cops were caught red handed while accepting bribe of Rs 1500 jointly from the complainant.
The tainted cash was recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses.
Their hand-wash was also taken which tested positive.
After accord of sanction for prosecution by the government, challan was produced in the court of Special Judge Anti-corruption, Kashmir.
Both the accused officials were present in the Court at the time of the production of challan, handout said.
