Taslima should desist from blasphemous writings: Lalu

KOLKATA, Nov 25 (Agencies): Railways Minister Lalu Prasad today advised controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to desist from writing "blasphemous articles" but declined to comment on whether she should be deported from India.

"If anybody writes blasphemous articles against Islam, it is bound to create tension.

My personal opinion is she should desist from writing such articles against any religion," Yadav told reporters here.

He parried a question on whether Nasreen should leave India in the wake of demands of some Muslim groups that her visa be cancelled, saying the matter rested with the Centre.

"There is the Ministry of External Affairs.

There is the Home Ministry.

It is for the Government of India to take a decision in the matter," the RJD president said.

Nasreen, facing death threats and a 'fatwa' from fundamentalists for her book 'Lajja' was quietly shifted out of Kolkata to Jaipur on Thursday, after a road blockade here by a little known outfit on Wednesday turned violent.
