Two killed in accidents

KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU/DODA, July 12: Two persons were killed and eight others including six cops engaged with the escort of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda were injured in two separate accidents since late night.

Police reports said that two persons were killed and two others sustained wounds when the truck loaded with fruit skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge at Patnitop near Mandir Point.

Reports said that the driver of ill-fated truck bearing registration number JK02M-8971 lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a gorge at Patnitop.

One of the deceased has been identified as Romesh Chand, son of Sarda Ram of Bhatta Paryot, Doda.

Identity of another deceased was not yet ascertained.

The injured were admitted to the DH Udhampur for treatment.

Reports from Doda said that six cops were injured when the escort vehicle of SSP Doda Manohar Singh while on its way from Gandoh to Doda met with an accident at Donadi, 4 kilometers short of Thathri in Doda district this afternoon.

The driver of the escort gypsy failed to negotiate a curve and it fell into a gorge at 3.45 PM.

All the injured were shifted to the District Hospital (DH) Doda from where four seriously injured were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment.

Those referred to the GMC hospital were identified as Constables Om Parkash, Atul Sharma, Ravi Kant and Selection Grade Constable Mohammad Ibrahim.

Two other injured who were undergoing treatment at the DH Doda were identified as Mazar Ali and Kiran Kishore (driver).

Reports said that the whole rescue operation was monitored by SSP Doda Manohar Singh himself.

The authorities also requisitioned the service of helicopter but it failed to reach there due to bad weather conditions.

Thereafter the seriously injured cops were sent to Jammu by road.
