UAE halts publication of 4 Malayalam and 2 Urdu dailies
DUBAI, May 2 (UNI): Six vernacular publications, including prominent Malayalam dailies like Malayala Manorama and Madhyamam, had to halt their publication after UAE's National Media Council (NMC) directed the printing press to stop their publication.
Four Malayalam dailies, One Urdu daily and one Urdu weekly was stopped from printing yesterday as they did not have printing rights in the UAE, Arabia.com reported.
All the publications were printed at the Al Ghurair Press which informed the dailies of the Council order.
''We do not have any issues with the newspapers.
The problem is with printing permission.
They had not obtained permission to print these papers in the UAE,'' a NMC official said.
It is understood the NMC had issued warnings to the papers at the end of a grace period to regularise their legal status as per the law, the Gulf News said.
The other two Malayalam dailies were Chandrika and Siraj and together the four dailies have substantial circulation in the UAE.
