BAGHDAD, Jan 18 (Agencies): A US military remote controlled aircraft crashed near Baghdad airport, the military reported on Thursday.

The aircraft crashed on Wednesday five miles southeast of Baghdad airport at around 11:35 pm (0205 IST).

"The crash does not appear to be from hostile activity.

A board will be convened to investigate the incident," the military said.

It said the crash site was an unpopulated area and that no collateral damage or injuries occurred.

"The aircraft is a medium-altitude long-endurance, remotely piloted aircraft," it said, adding its "primary mission is conducting armed reconnaissance."
