12 idols stolen from Jain temple

ETAH, Feb 15 (UNI): As many as 12 ancient 'ashtadhatu' idols have been stolen from a Jain temple in this district.

SSP Anand Swaroop today said the information regarding the missing idols from the Digambar Jain temple in the Sakrauli village of Jalesar area here was received yesterday.

He said the idols were possibly stolen on Sunday night.

He said raids were being conducted at several places in UP, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh even as one suspect has been arrested so far.

The police teams have been sent to Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan and at several places in MP.

A window of the temple was found broken, the SSP said adding that the temple had 19 ancient 'ashtadhatu' idols.

A probe was being conducted into the suspected involvement of the former temple convenor, who had recently been removed from the post.
