KT NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Apr 6: In a well co-ordinated operation, Narcotics Central Bureau (NCB) and Customs Commissionerate, Jammu and Kashmir arrested two contraband narcotic smugglers and recovered 10 kilograms of morphine (Hashish) worth Rs 45 lakhs in the International Market from their possession.
Disclosing this to media persons here today, Commissioner Customs Commissionerate Jammu and Kashmir MS Badhan said that the smugglers were arrested in a joint operation of NCB and Central Excise and Customs sleuths.
The narcotic smugglers, he said, were nabbed from Rajinder Nagar locality here last evening at 2030 hours when they were preparing to hand over the consignment of Morphine (Hashish) to some local agents in Jammu for its sale in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi etc.
MS Badham identified the arrested smugglers as Mushtaq Ahmed and Gulzar Ahmed, both residents of Kashmir valley.
He, however, declined to disclose their addresses on plea that this would hamper their further investigations.
Commissioner Central Excise and Customs further said that the contraband Morphine (Hashish) was smuggled by them from Anantnag and Srinagar.
He maintained that the consignment was to be handed over to some local agents here for its further disposal in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
Commissioner MS Badham said that the joint operation was conducted on the specific intelligence inputs.
He said that their men had kept strict surveillance of the area since yesterday morning and managed to arrest the smugglers at 2030 hours last evening.
He expected some more arrests in the case as the interrogation of smugglers was in progress.
He said that they will be produced before the court tomorrow for judicial remand.
A case under section 8, 20, 29 NDPS Act has been registered against them and the sample of consignment seized from the smugglers has been sent for laboratory tests.
The whole operation was also co-ordinated by Zonal Director NCH Jammu Rakesh Goel.
Meanwhile Udhampur (Rehmbal) police seized 1500 grams of charas from a narcotic smuggler in village Garhi of district Udhampur.
Acting on a tip off, a police team headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Police station Rehmbal raided village Garhi and arrested Mohammad Aslam, son of Talib Hussain of Chak Rakhalam (Udhampur).
Police recovered 1500 gram of charas from his possession.
A case under 20 NDPS Act has been registered against him.
