KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Feb 21: Two unidentified militants were killed in an operation by army in frontier district of Kupwara while in rest of the valley no killing was reported.
Police claims in the same encounter three militants were killed.
According to an officer of 8 Sector RR , who was conducting the operation, army's 2 Para regiment along with SOG on specific information launched a search operation in Batnar forests of Kuligam early this morning.
As the searches were on, the officer said, heavily armed hiding militants fired upon the search party.
The search party retaliated the fire and in ensuing gunfight two unidentified militants were killed.
The troops recovered the bodies of slain militants and two assault rifles, besides a large cache of ammunition from the militants.
A statement from the police media cell quoting DIG Baramulla said, "Three Jaish militants were killed in encounter in Kuligam Lolab and one among them is stated to be a commander," the statement said.
Late evening PRO defence Col Majinder told KTNS, "We have killed two and have recovered two bodies."
