2 women coop banks in J&K soon

KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, June 9: Srinagar June 9, J&K Government has decided to establish two women Cooperative banks, one each at Srinagar and Jammu, as a step forward towards women empowerment.

This announcement was made by the Minister for Agriculture & Cooperatives Abdul Aziz Zargar while inaugurating three day leadership development programme for Directors of Maharshatra Cooperative Banks at picturesque Nageen Lake in Srinagar near here late last evening.

The programme has been organized by the D G Institute of Cooperative Management Nagpur in coordination with National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT) New Delhi.

About 90 delegates, mostly Directors, Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of various Urban Cooperative Banks of Maharashtra are participating in the Camp with main objective of hammering out a joint strategy for improving working conditions of Cooperative banking sector in the country and to make it more vibrant peoples movement.

Prominent legislature of Maharashtra State and Ex-Chairman Bombay Market Traders Federations Kadam Badigar, Registrar Cooperatives, J&K, Dr.

Qasba, Director Maharashtra Urban Cooperative Banking Federation Bhaskar Rao Kothawade, Joint Director National Council for Cooperative Training K.

Singh, Senior Accounts Officer (NCCT) M.

Zargar, were also present on the occasion.

Giving resume of the Urban Cooperative banks in the State, the Minister said J&K has four Urban Cooperative Banks which all are self-sustaining and running in profit.

These banks have a cumulative deposits of about Rs.

18,542.00 Lac and have made advances of the order of Rs.

11,153.00 Lac, he added.

Registrar Cooperative Societies, J&K, also spoke on the occasion and said as a part of diversification measures, more than 300 poultry Cooperatives have been registered during last one year and 56 poultry projects worth Rs.

22.00 Crore forwarded to National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for grant of financial assistance
