KT NEWS SERVICE SRINAGAR, Jan 31: At least three militants were killed and two soldiers wounded in separate militancy related incidents across Kashmir as a rocket misfired by army damaged as many as seven houses in city outskirts.
A civilian was wounded when an IED went off in an old city locality.
Reports reaching here from Budgam said troops from 34-RR received information about presence of militants in Danaspora village.
They sent a posse to the village that cordoned it off.
Militants who were in the village fled to the premises of the local masjid.
Within minutes an encounter started.
In the initial attack of the militants two soldiers received grievous injuries.
The subsequent retaliation led to an encounter in which three militants were killed.
They were identified as Javed Ahmad Dar alias Abdullah, a resident of Sumbal Sonawari, Bashir Ahmad Ganai alias Aasif of Raithan and Mohamad Yousuf alias Tariq of Pattan.
The mosque also suffered minor damages.
Police has confirmed the incident and said they recovered three weapons from the spot of the clash.
Reports said that troops later marshaled the masses irrespective of their age and gender.
A report from Anantnag said that troops from 36-RR and militants are engaged in a fierce encounter at Watnar area of Kokernag.
The encounter was on when the last reports came in.
In Bejbehara, report said unidentified gunmen shot at Asiq Hussain Bhat of Waghama near Tehsil office.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is recovering.
Police have already registered a case.
In the old city locality of Zadibal, reports said an IED planted on the road went off.
Though there were no casualties a house owned by Mohamad Abdullah was damaged.
Bomb Disposal Squad had already neutralized an IED near Kegam on Srinagar Shopian road.
Meanwhile seven residential houses in Zainakote area suffered damages as a rocket misfired from the neighbouring camp of 2 RR.
The incident occurred when a jawan accidentally fired a rocket which hit the houses causing extensive damages to those.
