320 kg poppy husk seized in anti-smuggling drive

MOGA, June 19 (UNI): With the seizure of another 30 kg of poppy husk from a smuggler of Daulewala village known for illicit distillation of liquor, the district police claimed to have recovered a total of 320 kg of poppy husk in its anti-smuggling drive during the last four days.

According to SSP Devinder Singh Garcha, police arrested Avtar Singh after the recovery of the poppy husk from him.

Earlier, 210 kg poppy husk was seized by the Dharamkot police from Kishanpura village two days ago but the smugglers managed to escape before the police arrived, he said.

The police seized the abandoned contraband and registered a case against the unidentified persons.

Also, Baghapurana police had recently recovered 80 kg of poppy husk - 70 kg from Sekha Kalan village and 10 Kg from Laina village and arrested two smugglers in this respect.

Woman constable consumes poison, alleges harassment from senior DEHRADUN, June 19 (UNI): A woman Uttarakhand Police constable today attempted suicide at Police Line in Hardwar district reportedly following harassment by her senior officer.

According to sources, Constable Manju Bhatt, who was recently posted at Police Line, consumed poison at around 0930 hrs today and was admitted in the City Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

According to reports, she alleged harassment by PAC Commandant RS Negi.

She was married to the personal security guard of the Commandant but divorced lately.
